Quantitative antibody test to check for Past Covid-19 Infection

The BioSmart Covid-19 antibody screening test is a laboratory based ELISA that will tell you the level of Covid-19 antibodies in your blood.

This is a useful indicator of the amount of protective immunity you have following infection and therefore your risk or reinfection by the virus called SARS-CoV-2 that causes Covid-19.

ELISA's (Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assays) are much more sensitive at detecting antibodies than rapid tests (or Lateral Flow Immunoassays).

In addition to confirming that you have previously had Covid-19, the BioSmart ELISA will be a very useful test once the Covid-19 vaccines are available, especially if some of the vaccines require more than one dose in order to be effective.

We are able to screen your blood in the lab by sampling "Dried Blood Spots" which can be collected at home without the need of a medical professional.

Dry blood spots are whole blood samples collected on filter paper and dried and have been used for many years as an effective way to sample blood for analysis in a lab.

HOW TO TAKE YOUR DRY BLOOD SPOT SAMPLE:

 

STEP 1

Place the DBS filter paper on a clean, flat surface and enter patient details in the space provided on the filter paper.

STEP 2

With the alcohol swab, clean the finger to be pricked. 

IMPORTANT: Allow the finger to dry before using the safety lancet.

STEP 3

Remove the top of the safety lancet and push it down on the clean dry finger. Apply gentle pressure to the finger and allow a large drop of free-flowing blood to collect at the puncture site.

STEP 4

Working quickly, hold the filter paper by the edges and touch the filter paper gently against the large drop of blood. Allow a sufficient quantity of blood to soak through and completely fill or saturate a circle. Repeat until you have collected enough blood to fill at least 3 circles on the blood collection board.

STEP 5

Dry the blood spots by leaving them horizontally (away from direct sunlight) for at least 3 hours at room temperature.

STEP 6

Once dried, place inside the sample collection kit box with desiccant, and place the box inside the biohazard pouch.

Return for processing
